I'm a Brit who came to the States in 1989. Just for a year or two. I'm still here. This tells you how much I know. But I do know that I was born in Kampala, Uganda and raised in East, and West Africa and at a boarding school in the New Forest, (which I also know is nothing of the sort-it's very old. It had Charles I in it. How new can it be?). The first book I ever read all the way through was 'The Complete Nonsense' by Edward Lear. Things have not been the same since. Also, I get to have the best job in the world-writing stories. And I get to work for the best bosses in the world-children. I am very grateful. https://www.sallylloyd-jones.com/about/
