Welcome to the newly revised World Missions Today classroom series course. Rewritten by one of the original authors, this textbook provides an overview of missions which will inspire you to pray for, work for, and give to missions as well as compel others to do the same. Kenneth Mulholland, 96 pages, paper ISBN 0-910566-16-X Some people regard missions as the imposition of Western culture and the extension of North American denominationalism. Others view missions as a religious cover for the spread of political influence or as a massive welfare program for developing nations. Still another group equates missions with "civilizing" primitive peoples, a carry-over from a colonial concept which assumed Western ways were best for everyone. Such impressions of missions are inaccurate and unbiblical. From a biblical perspective, mission work does not originate in human relationships. Instead, mission work begins with the divine initiative. God so loves the people He created that even in their rebellion, He seeks to redeem and restore the lost. Not only does God seek the unsaved, but He also directs believing men and women to be involved in communicating the Gospel. While the task, methods, and means of today's missionary have changed, the underlying purpose remains the same. About the Author Dr. Ken Mulholland is Dean and Professor of Missions at Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions in Columbia, South Carolina. For 15 years, he and his wife Ann served as missionaries in Central America. Currently, Ken is President of the Evangelical Missiological Society and Chairman on the Board of the U. S. Center for World Missions, Pasadena, California. A prolific writer, he has traveled to more than 70 countries around the world. The Mulhollands have three children, all of which are active in Christian ministry. They are grandparents to seven grandchildren.
