Consecrated Bishop of Hippo, his influence spread throughout the Christian world from his native Numidian Africa by means of sermons, letters, philosophical and theological essays, confessions, and his famous City of God, in all of which he reiterated the goodness and all-pervasiveness of God. Characteristic of the content and style of his thinking and writing is "On the Immortality of the Soul," given here in its entirety.
