_aBaptists are a people who profess a living faith. This faith is rooted and grounded in Jesus Christ who is "the same yesterday, and today, and forever." Therefore, the sole authority for faith and practice among Baptists is Jesus Christ whose will is revealed in the Holy Scriptures. The Baptist Faith & Message has long been the standard for those who want to know more about the cherished and distinctive beliefs of Baptist Christians. This revised edition presents our basic beliefs about the Scriptures, God, man, salvation, grace, the church, the ordinances, the Lord's Day, the kingdom, Last Things, evangelism, missions, education, stewardship, cooperation, the social order, war and peace, and religious liberty. Includes learning activities and a teaching plan for a five-session group study. Herschel H. Hobbs (1907-1995) Herschel H. Hobbs was one of the most influential and shaping leaders in Southern Baptist life in the 20th century. His role as chairman of the 1963 "Baptist Faith and Message" committee, coupled with his tireless efforts to formulate and articulate Southern Baptist doctrine and distinctives for almost four decades have cemented his position in history. Hobbs, as preacher, author, denominational statesman and pastortheologian, has often been called "Mr. Southern Baptist." Examining his early years it would have been nearly impossible for anyone to predict the influence he had on Baptist life. Hobbs stepped on the Southern Baptist stage under the guidance of and with the obvious blessings of God's providential hand, for there was no family tradition of church leadership, denominational involvement, or serious biblical exposition or theological reflection on which he could build. Hobbs made a public profession of faith in Jesus Christ when he was 11 yrs old during a revival service. Hobbs developed a prolific writing ministry. In 1951 Hobbs published his first book followed by 150 different works for lay persons and pastors alike. _c1 _uhttps://www.amazon.com/dp/0805495975/?coliid=I2MEIRFCIQUBNT&colid=1GVQJ87LI52KJ&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it |
