Janet Steiger with husband, Dave, were eyewitnesses to many of the events in this story. Netherlands New Guinea was their first assignment with Mission Aviation Fellowship. Six weeks after their arrival in March 1955, The Christian and Missionary Alliance Short Sealand amphibian aircraft crashed, killing pilot Al Lewis. The Steigers were left in a fast-moving, dramatic adventure, pioneering a rapidly growing aviation supply line to missionaries working in an isolated Stone Age culture. The airplane was the key-and only-mode of transportation to Shangri Louisiana This is a true and accurate account without embellishment. Janet and Dave invested 26 years in overseas mission work and now reside in Everett, Washington, keeping active in volunteer projects.
