Moral Development Foundations, edited by Donald M. Joy, is a collection of constructive critiques on the works of Jean Piaget and Lawrence Kohlbert - leaders in moral development research and theory. Joy, who penned four of the chapters, selected a number of contributors from a variety of Catholic, Jewish, and Protestant perspectives for this timely resource. The book will be especially helpful to those who find important insights in moral development theory, but have an uneasy concern about the agnostic/humanistic foundations from which it has been formulated. The basic intent of thest collected commentaries is to provide an examination of the theory from a theistic viewpoint. Contributors to this book include Joseph Reimer, Barrry Chazan, Paul J. Philibert, Samuel F. Rowen, Stephen A. Schmidt, Craig Dykstra, Mary Elizabeth Moore, Doug Sholl, and Ted Ward. Donald M. Joy is Professor of Human Development and Christian Education and Chairman of the Division of Christian Ministry at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky. He is director of the Center for the Study of Children, Conscience, and the Family, and lectures widely at conferences and workshops. He has written two books, including The Holy Spirit and You published by Abingdon Press.
