More than two decades ago, the prominent Argentine political scientist Guillermo Odonnell raised the need to get rid of the excessive "fixation on complex and highly formalized organizations" to understand the functioning of democracies under new institutional designs. This book responds to the need to investigate the real functioning of Latin American democracies, analyzing the informal rules of political exchange and distribution of resources in Colombia and Mexico. It is intended to know how politicians and parties co-opt votes beyond activities. |

Hace más de dos décadas, el destacado politólogo argentino Guillermo OD́onnell planteó la necesidad de librarse de la excesiva "fijación en las organizaciones complejas y altamente formalizadas", para entender el funcionamiento de las democracias bajo los nuevos diseños institucionales. Este libro responde a la necesidad de indagar en el funcionamiento real de las democracias latinoamericanas, analizando las reglas informales de intercambio político y de distribución de recursos en Colombia y México. Se pretende conocer cómo es que políticos y partidos cooptan votos más allá de las actividades. |
