"The importance of the Jerusalem Council in Acts 15 is often missed because the debate itself is not recorded. However, the direction of the body of Christ on earth was at stake, and every man at this special council felt the gravity of the moment. Paul's gospel for the Gentiles held that Jesus sanctifies and saves by the Spirit alone and that no ceremonial rites are required. The basis for his gospel, the exclusive sufficiency of Jesus to save, differed from Peter's gospel for the Jews, for Peter's gospel included the rites of the law of Moses. That difference is what ignited the controversy that led to the Jerusalem Council. This book presents arguments that were likely made at the Council and explains why both sides were desperate to win the day. I also presents evidence from Paul's letters, showing that although the leaders of the Council acknowledged that Paul's gospel was of God, the body of Christ as a whole eventually rejected it ...
