Dissertation note: Thesis Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions 2011. Abstract: This research analyzes the lives of cross-cultural missionaries serving in high-risk locales. "High-risk" refers to a living and working environment which holds continual unstable hazards due to environmental daily living challenges, socio-political threats, exposure to illness/disease, isolation, or spiritual oppression/persecution. These persistent hardships can cause physical, psychological, spiritual, and/or ministry stress, as well as lead to early attrition from the field. Mission organizations and member care providers need to provide more specific and effective pastoral care to help prevent the early attrition of high-risk missionaries.
