On the first Christmas after Eleanor's family moves to a house on the prairie, everyone becomes worried when Papa goes out to cut down a Christmas tree and does not come back. Elenore's first Christmas on the prairie is very different from Christmas back in Maine. There are no relatives to help celebrate. The ornaments are still in Maine, and there are no cranberries to string for the tree. Still Mama has some good ideas--and Elenore experiences a prairie Christmas that she'll never forget.
