Dissertation note: Thesis Columbia Biblical Seminary and School of Missions 2011. Abstract: The situation in central and eastern Uttar Pradesh could have been described as a spiritual desert fifteen years ago. Now with the breakthrough in the Bhojpuri movement and church growth in central Uttar Pradesh, streams of living water flow through the area. This research explores how the different organizations and church planters impacted this historically difficult region. By conducting interviews and by observing church planers, their actual practices came to light. The research revealed that good church growth in central and eastern Uttar Pradesh is occurring, but only a fraction of the churches experience reproduction. The crucial areas that need addressing are the entry strategy, involvement and training of local leadership, and an effective discipling of new believers.
